The reemergence of Northwoods Alliance in Jan. of 2006 was inspired by the UPPCO Flowage issue. The Upper Peninsula Power Co. proposed to sell several thousand acres for development to Minnesota based Naterra, AKA Taylor Investment Corporation. We tracked that issue from the very first rumor and were well aware that the proposal was not compatible with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission license agreements at Bond, Victoria and Prickett Flowages. Our original white paper on this topic can be found here. NWA actively advocated for alternatives, and with success lands at Prickett and Victoria have been acquired by the Ottawa National Forest, the newest is a 217 acres at Victoria  protecting the incoming river segment. More recent updates can be found on our “news” page.
